CLINICAL
Week 2 of Nursing School is done…*BIG SIGH* I am stressed out and so behind in my work and I feel like all I do is work, but I still love it. Probably because I know this is what I want to do and I know it will be worth it. Also in comparison to my previous major (Biochemistry) which was also a TON of work, nursing school is a lot of work, but it’s interesting. There is such a huge difference between doing boring homework and doing interesting homework.
We had our first clinical this week! We’re not taking patients yet (not this week either, but the week after we will be!). We had hospital/clinical orientation on location and went over some paperwork. We also learned a bit more about our floor and met some of the nurses. I loved it
The nurses were really nice to us so far, so hopefully I’ll get some good ones who are enthusiastic to teach because I am soooo ready to learn. I am a sponge haha. I also love my clinical instructor and clinical group. Everyone is just so supportive of each other and each other’s questions it is really great to have a support group that knows firsthand what’s going on and what it’s like (especially on those not so nice days). Next week we’re supposed to be shadowing a nurse for a few hours and do a scavenger hunt on our floor so that should be a lot of fun. I am most looking forward to the shadowing so I can get a feel of what it’s like as a nurse on our floor!
Other school news–I received a 100% on my Math Pre-Test. Unforunately it doesn’t count for anything haha, but it was used to see “where we were at”, so hopefully that’s a good sign! I have my first real quiz this upcoming week. It is in lab on basically everything we’ve done in lecture and lab the first 2 weeks of school–scary! I also have a vital signs proficiency test either this week or next week. We can kinda choose which week we’ll go, but I’m leaning toward next week because I haven’t been able to practice BP since all the open lab times were full. That way I can sign up for an open lab time for this week and be able to practice before I go in there. It doesn’t hurt you if you fail this week though, so I might give it a shot anyway… or I can potentially just do all my vital signs EXCEPT BP, which I feel pretty good about…we’ll see. It depends on how much time it takes for everyone who wants to go to do it, so I’m playing it by ear. I’m pretty nervous, but I think it will be okay. I think one of the reasons I’m nervous is because I can do everything really well with my stethoscope (Littman’s are great by the way–you can hear so much), but the stupid double stethoscopes are SO quiet…I really am having a hard time hearing. Ugh. I’m sure I’ll be okay–just frustrating.
That is all for now…hope everyone’s semesters have started off fabulous!
~love always~
Jen
